A message sent to the Meetup Site members of PK-SJ:

Just wanted to send holiday greetings and give you an update on how things are going. Thanks to those of you who attended our 10/20 event at the Improv Theater. As far as inaugural events go, it went quite well. We had a great and receptive audience, talented and interesting presenters, and I was particularly happy to see lots of folks chatting up each other during breaks and afterward. It's a social event after all, and a great place to meet folks and get inspired.

While the theater was an amazing venue for audiences, very comfortable and beautiful, paradoxically it wasn't great for presenters. Of course the projector had the "notorious" yellow blotch that apparently appeared just before our event. The stage lighting simply isn't set for a person standing next to their screen, and the hanging screen it at the edge of the stage forcing the presenter to be a little too close to the edge.

The upshot is we'll be at a different venue for the next event. I'm currently scoping that out, have a couple of "safety" locations, but don't have a set date or locale now. Expect this to be established by the end of the month. Shooting to have the next event mid-February. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. It should be big enough to handle 50-100 people, a projection system in place or capable of having one set up, and preferably able to sell refreshments to attendees. Yeah, a nice big bar or restaurant with meeting space.

Which brings me to the last bit of news about the Meetup Group. I expect to discontinue using the Meetup group shortly, and limiting main communications to the three sites:
If you're not registered at either the main PK site, or the Facebook site, I recommend joining now. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write to me, I'm happy to chat. And if you have any suggestions about presenters, or want to present yourself, please let me know.

Terrific first event.  Some equipment problems delayed our start but all the presenters were well received and the audience seemed engaged and entertained.

Theme for the first PKSJ event is Reflection.

Pecha Kucha themes set a tone but should not dictate a content barrier for presenters. Arguably an association with the theme is preferred, and probably expected by the audience.

In other words, Reflection is a pretty broad theme, one that could be applied to just about any presentation that reflects on a topic, or presents on a topic that reflects.

re·flec·tion –noun 1.the act of reflecting or the state of being reflected. image; representation; counterpart. 3.a fixing of the thoughts on something; careful consideration. 4.a thought occurring in consideration or meditation. 5.Physics, Optics. the return of light, heat, sound, etc., after striking a surface.

Hey, it's Pecha Kucha in San Jose, CA!

Our first event is on October 20th at The Improv, in downtown San Jose.  We're really excited because it's an incredible theatre, full bar, great stage, terrific seating... well, it's just great. Normally The Improv hosts great stand-up comics, so it's a bit of a change for them to host some great PK presenters.  But at least one of which has done stand-up himself.  More on that later.  But  if you're in the San Jose California, Silicon Valley area we really hope you will plan to join us that night.

If you'd like to be on the mailing list for the San Jose, CA Pecha Kucha events, follow this link and get signed-up!  It's a very low volume list, exclusively Pecha Kucha announcements.

We're also want to hear from those who want to present at our events, so if you're interested, please follow this link and send us a message!

How do you pronounce Pecha Kucha?

The pronunciation can be confusing for English speakers.

Try breaking it up the like this:

Pe - Chak - Cha

Although we've also heard it like this:

Pe - Cha- ku - Cha

Pe - Chaku - Cha

Any one seems fairly recognizable, so we're not judging anyone.

See, it's easy.
